April 2023 Meeting Recap

April Technical Presentation

Eric Stoddart (K8ERS) the club’s president presented “HF Radios: Buy Smart, Stay on the air” during our latest meeting.

This presentation explores how 3D printing technology intersects with amateur radio by showcasing practical applications, tools, and workflows. It begins with an overview of 3D printing methods, including FDM and SLA, then highlights real-world ham radio uses such as custom cases, antenna components, and replacement knobs. Attendees learn how to select the right printer based on material needs and build volume, where to find or design printable models using tools like Fusion 360 and Thingiverse, and how to convert those models into printer-ready files through slicing software. The session aims to inspire creativity and demonstrate how 3D printing can streamline and enhance ham radio projects.
