February 2024 Meeting Recap

Anthony Luscre, K8ZT, presented an informative session titled ‘Technicians: Life Beyond Repeaters,’ **which explored the many opportunities available to Technician-class license holders beyond local repeater operation. The presentation aimed to inspire Technicians to expand their amateur radio activities by exploring modes such as HF communications, digital modes, satellites, contesting, and portable operations.

The session covered how Technicians can take advantage of their HF privileges on the 10-meter band, as well as opportunities for long-distance communication using CW and digital modes like FT8. Additionally, the presentation highlighted alternative operating activities, including VHF/UHF SSB & VHF/UHF contesting.

For those interested in space communications, the presentation introduced working amateur satellites and the International Space Station (ISS) as exciting ways for Technicians to make contacts around the world. Other topics included emergency communications (EMCOMM), participating in amateur radio contests, and experimenting with different antennas and portable setups to enhance their skills and enjoyment of the hobby.

Due to a family issue, Anthony was unable to attend, and Club President Eric Stoddart, K8ERS, presented on his behalf, along with his YouTube recording. A link to his presation is below.
